Grateful Dogs
is an educational, non-profit 501 C/3 organization formed as a community action group in 1999 to save Post Point (Fairhaven Dog Park) as an off leash area. Since then, the group has attended Park Board and City Council meetings, promoted the need for additional off leash parks in the city of Bellingham.
One success is the fenced off leash dog park at Lake Padden, which include separate large and small dog sections.
2015 saw the opening of the new 2.5 acre off-leash area within the updated Squalicum Creek Park at 1001 Squalicum Way, between Northwest and Eldridge Avenue. A Grateful Dogs fundraising and volunteer effort planted 125 trees in the new park, and donated a bench for the comfort of users of the large dog section of Squalicum Creek Park.
We are proud of the our efforts and the legacy left for future park users.
Grateful Dogs is committed to working with the Parks Department and Public Works, fostering a positive relationship. We are all about enhancing our community.
